The epoxy resin has good properties such as high adhesion, light weight and oxidation resistance. However, epoxy itself has relatively weak mechanical properties and this leads to a study of using fillers such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs). With such fillers, we can anticipate higher strength and modulus. Considerable issues about this study using CNTs is to achieve interfacial bonding and CNT dispersion in epoxy. The formation of functional groups on the surface of CNTs, treating acid and amine, successively, would improve the dispersion degree in epoxy. By encapsulating catalyst inside CNTs, we can improve the hardening temperature to the lower. The functional group of amine is observed by FT-IR, and to detect the quantity of the group, TGA is used. Cap opening and encapsulation of catalyst is seen by TEM. After hardening, DSC is used to find out the exothermic temperature of epoxy and CNT. |
