For enhancing the rate of conversion, improving the CH4-liquid volumetric mass transfer coefficient (kLa) is a one of the effective methods. In this study, conversion of CH4 to methanol has increased as added surface-modified magnetic mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MMSNs) with methyl groups. The results showed that the methyl-MMSNs, which have both hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties on the surface, improve kLa by 28% compare to no MMSNs. On the basis of the result, two types were tested on conversion of CH4 to methanol by M. trichosporium OB3b. As a result, the including methyl-MMSNs enhanced conversion rate about 16.5% than none.
