Mercury is one of the most toxic metals and must be removed to very low levels. Activated carbons have the potential to be an effective means of mercury removal. In this study, the effects of porous structure and surface functionality on the mercury adsorption capacity of activated carbons have been investigated as a function of surface treatment. Adsorption studies of Hg(Ⅱ) were carried out varying some conditions; surface functional groups, reactive time, and pH.It was found that the surface treatments on activated carbons led to the enhancement of the mercury adsorption and the decrease in the equilibrium time. |
