제목 Surface Modification of Hollow Fiber Microfiltration Membrane using UV-curable Photopolymer
초록 Although microfiltration (MF) is widely used in many application areas for water and wastewater treatment, membrane fouling is still a serious problem to be overcome. It is difficult to control membrane fouling by a single method since not only the hydrodynamics but also physicochemical interacti ons between membrane surface and foulants are important.
In this work, we investigated a technique to reduce fouling by the modification of membrane surface. A UV-curable photopolymer based on polyurethane acrylate was used to reduce the surface energy of commercial hollow fiber MF membranes. In addition, a smaller pore size is expected by this surface modification, thereby affecting the rejection characteristics. Experimental results using synthetic feed water containing kaolin, colloidal silica, and NOM indicated that the fouling propensity was reduced by the introduction of thin film of the photopolymer. Moreover, the fouling became more reversible after surface modification.
