My talk will focus on discovering novel bioresponsive hydrogel systems with numerous applications, including use in biosensing systems. Stimuli-responsive polymeric materials have great value in the development of biocompatible smart materials for use in in tissue engineering, drug delivery, and biological assay. Soft polymeric microgels, which are colloidal analogues of hydrogels, have been envisioned due to their similarity to cells and tissues. Developing novel biological responsivity of microgels, combined with cutting-edge analytical techniques, will allow greater utilization of these microgels and the fabrication of ideal biomimetic systems. I will discuss novel bioresponsive microgels that respond to biological signals to discover a microgel-based assay and to elucidate the biochemical functions of cell surface receptors linked to important physiological activities. |
