The presence of microplastics (MPs) in water is steadily emerging environmental issue. However, current technology does not allow real-time monitoring of MPs, because previously reported standard staining methods generally follow batch type protocol such as filtering-staining-spectroscopic investigation. In this study, MPs were stained with fluorescent dye in water to set-up an in-situ tagging procedures. In the presence of surfactant, non-polar fluorescent dye was firstly dispersed in water, allowing adsorption of the dye on MPs at certain temperature, time, and concentrations to afford tagged MPs with stable fluorescent behaviors. This work was supported by Korea Environment Industry & Technology Institute(KEITI) through Measurement and Risk assessment Program for Management of Microplastics Project, funded by Korea Ministry of Environment(MOE)(grant number 2020003110003). |
