Aromatic polyimides (PIs) are known to possess excellent thermal stability, dimensional stability, and mechanical properties and further to be easily functionalized, so that they have often been used or always considered for applications in advanced microelectronics and flat panel displays. In our laboratory, much effort has been made to develop low-k, easy processable, and photopatternable PIs, as well as liquid-alignment layer and active memory layer PIs via tailoring chemical backbone and functional groups with taking into consideration molecular packing and orientation. All the results are discussed in detail in aspects of integrating chemical structure, properties, morphological structure including surface structure, and applications. |
