Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT)/gold nanoparticle (GNP) composites have been prepared by a chemical route that involves functionalization of MWNT with thiol groups followed by attachment of GNPs. The subsequent bonding of thiol groups with GNPs offered strong adhesion of GNPs onto the surface of functionalized MWNTs. Therefore, the covalently attached thiol-functionalized MWNTs (TF-MWNT) can provide strong S-Au bonds to enhance the interaction between Au and MWNTs without agglomeration. The morphology of resultant nanocomposites was studied with SEM and TEM. The results showed that GNPs were uniformly distributed on the surface of TF-MWNTs. EA, EDX, XRD, FT-IR, TGA were used to further characterize the composites. The specific capacitance of TF-MWNTs and GNP/TF-MWNT nanocomposites were studied with cyclic voltammogram. |
