We develop new polyaniline copolymers with solvent-mimic side-chains, which act as a dispersion agent in various solvent. Two solvent-mimic side-chains, benzyloxypropyl (BOP) for non-polar aromatic solvent and dihydroxypropoxy (DHP) for polar alcoholic solvents are designed and introduced into polyaniline copolymers. New polyaniline copolymers with a small amount of side-chains exhibit high electrical conductivity of up to about 330 S/cm with camphorsulfonic acid (CSA) in the m-cresol. Compared to a polyaniline homopolymer, new polyaniline copolymer with BOP side-chains show enhanced dispersibility and film-forming ability in non-polar aromatic toluene due to solvent-mimic side-chains which interact with the solvent and/or the polyaniline mainchain. The new polyaniline copolymers were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), elemental analysis (EA), viscometer, UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). |
