Recently nonlinear optical (NLO) polymers are considered as a promising candidate for making electro-optic devices, mainly because they offer many advantages such as light weight and good processability. In the developments of NLO polymers, stabilization of electrically-induced dipole alignment is one of important criteria. In general, main-chain NLO polymers have good thermal stability of dipole alignments, but they often do not dissolve in organic solvents, which make them unusable to fabricate stable noncentrosymmetric films. Side-chain NLO polymer systems have the advantages such as good solubility, but they often suffer from poor stability of dipole alignments at high temperatures. In this work we prepared novel polyester containing 4,6-bis-(2’,2’-dicyanovinyl)resorcinoxy groups as NLO chromophores, which constitute parts of the polymer backbone. NLO activity of poled polymer films and their SHG thermal stability will be discussed in this report. |
