As the dimension of the materials became decreased, importance of the controlling the surface properties increased tremendously. Many efforts to develop the method to achieve that kind of control have conducted in these days. Here we introduce our recent studies to modify the surface of the bulk substrates with ultra-thin polymer coatings. The coatings are composed of hybrid materials, organic-inorganic materials or small organic compounds and polymers. These nano-structured blends include chemically active functional groups, so that they can be utilized to introduce additional chemical functionalities or physical attributes. I will discuss these ultra-thin film studies. |
