Chemical looping for hydrogen gas production shows promise as a technique that can recycle industrial by-products for use in energy production, making it a promising new technique that is inexpensive and environmentally friendly. This paper is the first to report on the use of steel production by-products for use in this process. The processing of Finex off-gas in a batch fluidized reactor, using an oxygen carrier consisting of iron (III) oxide powder combined with sand of different particle sizes, was tested and optimized. Conversion was maximized for Fe2O3 in a two-stage bed over 750 °C. |
