Study of the flow mark in the precision injection molding of PP composite |

Flow mark is a kind of surface defect that can arise during the filling stage of the injection molding process. The purpose of this study is to clarify a mechanism of the flow mark that appears on the surface of injection molded PP through the observation of the surface structure. The materials used in this experiment were PP/rubber and PP/talc compounding, which were widely used for automobile part. The flow mark had two different constitutions, such as a luster part and a cloud part, alternately on the both surface. It was obvious that the cloud part was a filler-rich state from the surface analysis of the article. The structure of the cloud part was quite different from luster part. We investigated the surface structure of PP/rubber and PP/talc composites by using IR, SEM, EDS, and OM. As a result, the cloud part of PP composites had more rubber and talc than luster part. |
