Mechanical and thermal properties of whisker and thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) composite were studied in terms of whisker size and interaction with matrix. The whisker/TPO composite was successfully prepared by twin extruder. The mechanical and thermal properties of whisker/TPO composites were improved in comparison with that of talc/TPO composites. The tensile strength, flexural modulus, and heat deflection temperature were also increased by increasing whisker content. In conclusion, whisker was able to affect not only mechanical properties but also thermal properties. Additionally, it can influence the density of the composite comparing with talc. |
