Study on the compatibilizing effect of PP-g-MAH and SEBS-g-MAH at the PP/PLA blends |

The effects of compatibilizers on the mechanical, rheological and morphological properties of the PP/PLA (80/20) blends have been studied. The compatibilizers used were polypropylene-g-maleic anhydride (PP-g-MAH) copolymer and styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene-g-maleic anhydride (SEBS-g-MAH). From the results of tensile strength of the PP/PLA (80/20) blends has the maximum value at the added of 3 phr contents of PP-g-MAH, which suggested that the PP-g-MAH is an effective compatibilizer to improve tensile strength of the PP/PLA (80/20) blends. The interfacial tension of the PP/PLA (80/20) blend was determined from the form relaxation time using the Palierne and Choi-Schowalter models and showed minimum value in the 3 phr PP-g-MAH content in each models. The result of the interfacial tension was consistent with the results obtained from the rheological and mechanical studies of the PP/PLA (80/20) blends. |
