Due to its specificity-selectivity and biocompatiblity, nucleic acids have been recognized as a generic biomaterial which is capable of designing and constructing novel functional and structural nanostructures including cubic, polyhedral, and even origami. In the meantime, nucleic acids termed as Nature-friendly brick-and-mortar have been further developed for use of several biomedical issues; DNA based hydrogel for islet-transplantation or cancer immunotherapy, DNA dendrimer as a nanobarcode system for pathogen detection, and protein producing DNA gel for therapeutic protein amplification platform. Here, I will review such nucleic acids engineering based medical nanotechnology, specially focusing on how it tunes a cancer cell fate. In near future, nucleic acids engineered material possessing facile anisotropic design and precise nanoscaled self-assembly) may be a substitute for the conventional polymeric molecules, thus renovating novel paradigm of polymeric sciences and engineering. |
