Today, The drug delivery techniques have been developed to efficiently help the human life against many diseases. In the drug delivery of oral solid forms, controlling crystal size and habit have been investigated to solve the limits of the pharmaceutical industry. By using the drowning-out crystallization, we can derive polymer-directed nucleation and growth for meso-crystal formation prior to the regular crystallization steps. In this study, the size and shape of the crystals was controlled by adjusting the ratio of the amounts of drug and polymers. For the experiment, a drug was used, atorvastatin [ATV], and the polymers were polyacrylic acid [PAA], etc. From the results of optical microscopy, the crystals of ATV showed an acicular shape of particles, but ATV with PAA showed a distinct proof of growth inhibition of acicular crystals. |
