Improved oxygen-barrier properties of polyacrylic acid and clay nanocomposite coated film |

To reduce the oxygen transmission rate (OTR) with high aspect ratio such as clays have been used as a filler in a polymer matrtix. They are known as a promising materials to fabricate high oxygen barrier in the coated film due to the torturous pathway created by the clays. In this study, the polyacrylic acid (PAA) as a high barrier polymer in oxygen was used for the synergetic effect with the clay after forming nanocomposite structure. To coat the solution on substrate films, PAA /clay composites were tried with various mixing ratios of each solution. The OTR result revealed that the nanocomposite coated film composed of two materials were superior to the OTR result compared to those of only clay and PAA. The type of clays affected to the interaction with the PAA molecular chains and layered structure due to the various diameters and surface charges. |
