Analysis of orientation behavior of polymer-dispersed liquid crystal using FT-IR |

polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (PDLCs) that consist of nematic liquid crystal droplets embedded in polymer matrix are promising materials in electro-optic applications. Molecular orientation behavior of LC droplets in PDLCs plays an important role to determine the quality of electro-optical display units. This paper describes analysis of orientation of LC molecules in PDLCs under applied electric field by polarizing microscope and FT-IR. PDLC films were fabricated by photopolymerization-induced phase separation (PIPS) method using mixture of nematic LC (E7), prepolymer (NOA65) at room temperature. In addition, idea for improvement of transmittance and the viewing angle will be suggested based on the orientation behavior of reactive liquid crystal under electric field. |
