The Effects of Molecular Weight of Polymer Gate-Dielectric on the Electrical Stability of Organic Field-Effect Transistors |

We here present the effect of molecular weight (MW) of polymer gate-dielectric on the bias stress stability of organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). We found that OFETs with lower MW of polymer gate-dielectric exhibited large threshold voltage shift under bias stress while there were not direct MW effects on field-effect mobilities and threshold voltages of the devices before bias stress. These results arise from polymer chain-ends acting as metastable trap-sites during bias stress. To understand the formation of metastable trap-sites at polymer chain-end, bias stress experiments were conducted with varying relative humidity. We found that water molecules incorporated into polymer chain-ends trigger the formation of metastable trap-sites and cause the degradation of bias stress stability. |
