Interfacial Evaluation of Carbon Fiber/Thermosetting Composites using Wetting and Electrical Resistance measurements |

Interfacial property was evaluated for carbon fiber (CF) and thermosetting composites. Wetting process of polymer resin on CF tow showed different shapes because of different viscosity and surface energy. Electrical resistance of CF tow changed with different wetting effects. Different interfaces were composed with phenolic resin, 3 type of epoxy resins and 2 types of 12K’s CF tows. Electrical resistance of CF tow was investigated during wetting process of different polymer resins. Both IFSS and ILSS were obtained for the different interfaces between fiber and matrix. The trend line was obtained by IFSS, ILSS and change ratio of electrical resistance for different wetting processes.
