Amphiphilic block copolymers assemble into membrane enclosed structures, polymersomes, which are of considerable interest for the delivery of hydrophilic drugs as well as hydrophobic drugs. The stabilization of polymersomes is highly desirable to control the drug release rate. In this study focused on achieving enhanced membrane stability for retention and controlled release of polymersome contents. In this study, Y-shaped copolymers that mimic the natural structure of phospholipids were synthesized using Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and Poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) containing acrylated end functional groups. Photo initiator was added to polymerize the acrylated PCL terminal end to enhance the robustness of polymersome membrane. The size of polymersome which was made of this copolymer ranged from 50 nm to 200 nm. These stabilized polymersomes were more resistant to surfactant disruption and degradation. |
