Reversible adsorption–desorption of nanoparticles on a patterned pH-responsive hydrogel surface: Efficient capture and release by graphene oxide |

The incorporation of GO in the pH-responsive hydrogel that was fabricated on a micro-patterned surface using honeycomb-patterned porous film, substantially increased the adsorption-desorption responsivity of Ag nanoparticles on the gel surface. A pH oscillator in a closed reaction system composed of BrO3-–Fe(CN)64-–SO32-was used to facilitate the periodic adsorption–desorption of Ag nanoparticles on the GO-incorporated gel surface. The adsorption–desorption oscillations were nearly synchronized with the pH oscillations, which can be explained by the increased responsivity of the GO-incorporated composite gel surface because of the high specific area and abundant hydrophilic groups of GO. The obtained heterogeneous oscillations clearly indicated that the hydrophobic interaction can be reversibly changed on the patterned pH-responsive gel surface, similar to various biological systems in nature. |
