제목 A soluble Photoreactive Polyimide with Chalcone Moieties in the Main Chain: Photoreactions and Liquid Crystal Photoalignment Capability in Thin Films
초록 We have reported the synthesis of a photosensitive fluorinated polyimide based on chalconediamines and aromatic dianhydride, and its application as low loss photosensitive polymer for passive waveguide. Recently, we found this photosensitive fluorinated polyimide can also function as photoalignment materials for liquid crystal display (LCD). The photoreaction of polyimide upon linearly polarized UV light (LPUVL) light exposure was investigated by UV-vis spectroscopic method. LPUVL irradiation causes photocrosslinking of the polymers via the [2+2] photocycloadditon of the chalcone moieties. The photo-induced anisotropic surface of the film induces an efficient homogeneous alignment of liquid crystals. The LPUVL-induced alignment characteristics of the polyimide films were determined by optical retardation and polar diagram of resulting LC cells. The pretilt angle and E-O properties of photoaligned LC cells were also investigated.
