제목 In vivo sustained release of protein drugs using small intestinal submucosa
초록 Drug delivery systems are capable of maintaining a sustained release of protein drugs for predefined periods, thereby improving its bioactivity and bioavailability. Small intestine submucosa (SIS) is an extracellular matrix and consists of types I and III collagens as well as several biologic factors. The SIS could be prepared as SIS solution via SIS powder through a variety of processing steps. When injected by syringe at the target location, this protein-SIS solution can form a protein-loaded SIS gel that acts as a depot for sustained delivery of the protein drug. BSA-FITC concentrations in rats injected with a BSA-FITC-loaded SIS solution reached a maximum at 9 hours, but exhibited a sustained-release profile, producing detectable levels of BSA-FITC in plasma for up to 20 days. SIS gel did not provoke a significant inflammatory response. This injectable property suggests that the SIS is suitable for use as a minimally invasive therapeutic drug carrier.
