In-plane Electrophoretic Displays Based on Oppositely Charged particles |
초록 |
An electronic reflective display using negatively charged blue particles and positively charged white particles has been designed and constructed. The electronic inks consist of positively charge white particles and negatively charged blue particles dispersed in a dielectric suspending medium was sandwiched between the ITO electrodes separated by and insulating spacer. The white particles were made of polymer-coated TiO2 pigments, and were dispersed with an additive in the suspending medium. The white particles were positive charges by the incorporation of a charge control additives during the fabrication of electronic inks. {image1}The in-plane electrophoretic displays a blue or white pattern depending on the polarity of the applied bias voltage. When a positive bias voltage is applied to the upper ITO electrode, the negative charged blue particles move to the upper ITO electrode because they are negatively charged. When the viewed through the upper electrode, the blue particles adhere to the interface of the upper electrode, and therefore, the indication of “blue image” is perceived by the human eye. The reflection densities of the blue and white image were determined to be 0.94 and 0.38, respectively. The maximum contrast was obtained when the total amount of loading was 10 mg and the weight ratio of the blue particles to the white particles was 5:5. This procedure makes possible rewritable in-plane electrophoretic imaging based on image recording and erasing by the action of an electric field. |
