(Z)-β-Fluoro-β-trifluoromethylstyrene derivatives 2 are useful building blocks for the synthesis of fluorinated compounds. However, previous methods for the preparation of 2 have been quite limited. A simple and straightforward approach to compound 2 will be established by the palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of 1 with arylboronic acids. Precursor of 2, 2,2,3,3,3-tetrafluoroprop-1-enyl-p-toluenesulfonate 1, was prepared in 67% yield from the reaction of 2,2,3,3,3-pentafluoropropyl p-toluenesulfonate with n-BuLi and DMPU in THF at low temperature. Arylation of 1 with arylboronic acids in the presence of catalytic amount of Pd(OAc)2, PCy3 ligand and K3PO4 base in dioxane/H2O(20:1) at reflux temperature for 4 h resulted in the formation of (Z)-β-fluoro-β-trifluoromethylstyrene derivatives 2 in good yields. Preparation of 2 and their reactions will be presented. |
