Ring-opening polymerization(ROP) has been widely studied and has much attention because of high synthetic efficiency and physical property of the polymers. ROP involves a strain relief initiated by radical, ionic, and metal coordination. A polycarbonate, prepared from cyclic carbonate, has potentially degradable through a backbiting mechanism. Polydithiocarbonate, analogue of polycarbonate, was reported to transform to the complete formation of a cyclic dithiocarbonate through a backbiting reaction. In the study, we developed stable polymers from 1,3-oxathiolane-2-thiones with a alkyl sulfide substituent. The substituent sulfide would involve to the ROP to stabilize an intermediate cation, leading to rearrangement of an alkyl chain. Similar substituent effect of alkoxy groups was investigated and compared. |
