Over the last several decades, coil–coil or rod–coil diblock amphiphiles have been extensively studied for their ability to form well-defined self-assembled vesicles for several applications. Their applications may now be extended due to the development of amphiphilic rod–rod block copolymers composed of all-conjugated blocks. McCullough and Yokozawa developed the quasi-living Grignard metathesis polymerization (GRIM) and Tajima et al. and others reported successful syntheses of thiophene-based all-conjugated diblock copolymers via GRIM method. In the previous work, we demonstrated that thiophene-based all-conjugated amphiphilic diblock copolymers could be self-organized. Here, we have synthesized thiophene-based all-conjugated amphiphilic rod-rod diblock copolymers via GRIM method and demonstrated electrochemical properties of the diblock copolymers with different block ratios and their self-assembled structures with kinetic and thermodynamic ways. |
