Preparation and characterization of the sulfonated poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (sPPO) membrane for URFCs(Unitized Regenerative Fuel Cells) |

The membrane based on the sulfonated poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (sPPO) was prepared for the URFCs (unitized regenerative fuel cells). Hydrocarbon polymer as poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (sPPO) polymer was sulfonated to introduce the ionic conduction site for high proton conductivity and the reason is the proton conductivity and the permeability are important for high performances of URFCs. Sulfonated poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (sPPO) membrane has a number of sulfonic acid functional groups (SO3H), therefore it increased the ionic conductivity. This study confirms the sulfonation of poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide and examines character of membranes, water uptake, swelling ratio and ion exchange capacity. |
