The waste plastics are thermally or catalytically degraded into gases and oils, which can be used as resources in fuels or chemicals. Several solid acid clay materials such as Halloysite, Pyrophyllite, Montmorillonite K-30 and Albite are investigated for their performances in the catalytic degradation of polystyrene. The catalytic degradation of polystyrene was carried out in a semi-batch reactor with a mixture of polystyrene and catalyst at 400 - 450℃. All the catalysts showed good catalytic activity for the degradation of PS with high selectivity to aromatic liquids. Styrene is the major product in the liquid product. High degradation temperature decreased the ethylbenzene production, but it increased the production of styrene dimers. |
