제목 Extraction of Sericin from Muga Silkworm Cocoon
초록 Recently, natural polymers are getting interest due to environmental problems and exhaustion of fossil resources. Since the properties of natural polymers are hardly modified, it is important to find novel natural polymers that have unique properties. Muga silkworm, Antheraea assamensis, is a tropical silkworm that is only grown in India. Like other silkworm fibers, sericin is discarded by degumming process, which could be a valuable candidate in materials field. In this study, we tried to fine the optimum extraction condition for Muga sericin. Several different extraction conditions were adopted such as, hot water, urea, urea-mercaptoethanol, , and NaCl methods. The highest yield was obtained from Na2CO3 method and the degumming ratio was about 18%. We also compared the amino acid composition and observed the morphology of remained cocoon fiber by SEM.
