Monodisperse gold octahedrons were synthesized in high yield by reducing hydrogen tetrachloroaurate with N,N-dimethyl foramide in the presence of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP). The moral ratio between hydrogen tetrachloroaurate and PVP played important roles in determining the shape of the product. At the low concentration of PVP multiple-twinned particles(MTPs) were obtained, however, as the amount of PVP was increased the morphology of gold nanoparticles was changed from octahedron to sphere. Gold nanoparticles seemed to determine the final nanoparticle morphology by the growth rate difference between <111> direction and <100> direction due to the selective adsorption of PVP in the {111} plane of the gold nanoparticle. Also we investigated the shape and size variations of gold nanoparticles obtained from different concentration of PVP by Scanning electron microscopy(SEM), Transmission electron microscopy(TEM), and UV-Vis spectroscopy. |
