The previous study showed that the ionic liquids enable AgNO3, known not to be readily reduced into silver nanoparticles, to be active olefin carrier in silver polymer electrolytes. In this text, we report the effect of ionic liquid (BMIM+NO3-) on gas permeance in polymer/silver salt complexes. We confirmed that both the selectivity of propylene/propane and the mixed gas permeance increased up to 0.1 mole ratio of added ionic liquid in poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) (POZ)/AgNO3 complex. However, the separation performance in selectivity and mixed gas permeance decreased above 0.1 mole ratio of added ionic liquid. On the other hand, the selectivity increased and mixed gas permeance decreased with increasing ionic liquid for poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)/AgNO3 complex. The pure gas permeance experiment showed that the ionic liquid plays a role in plasticizing the amorphous polymer up to 0.1 mole ratio, but a role as a barrier of gas transport in POZ/AgNO3 complex. Furthermore, for PEO/AgNO3 complex the ionic liquids reduced the crystallinity of polymer with increasing mole ratio, resulting in the decreased gas transport. |
