In this study, we propose a new approach to program the rheological properties of BCNF-based smart nanofluids in which use of the host-guest interaction that enables the shear stress-dependent reversible sol-gel transition. For this, the BCNFs were treated with 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethyl aminopropyl) carbodiimide and N-hydroxysuccinimide for the formation of amide bonds in aqueous solution. Then, the octadecylamine and carboxymethyl-β-cyclodextrin served as host and guest materials were grafted onto BCNFs, respectively. We confirmed that the β-cyclodextrin covalently conjugated on the BCNFs was associated with the alkyl chain on the other BCNFs via the host-guest interaction. Finally, the BCNF network formed by physical crosslinking showed not only an enhanced viscoelastic modulus but also a reversible sol-gel transition in response to the applied shear stress. |
