Administration of solid particles via the subcutaneous tissue has been a challenge due to their weak particle-to-particle interaction and particle-to-tissue adhesion, resulted in spreading out over non-targeted sites. Here, we showed these limitation can be overcame via chitosan catechol (CHI-C) coating. CHI-C shell exhibited in situ gelation in physiological condition to interconnect between the solid particles, which formed a gel scaffold. In vitro, HeLa cells proliferated on the surface of the scaffold as well as inner-surface of the particles, showing this formulation was biocompatible. Comparing to uncoated particles, CHI-C coated particles had stayed in injected site after 3 days. It means this system shows a potential as drug carrier for site specific delivery. |
