In this study, we report a unique way to generate uniform array of gold nanoparticles using nanoporous templates. To prepare nanoporous templates, a thin film of polystyrene-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine) copolymer (PS-b-P2VP) was initially spin-coated on a flat thin layer of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and solvent-annealed in toluene vapor for its microphase separation. After certain solvent-annealing times, vertical orientation of P2VP cylinders in PS-b-P2VP thin films was achieved on whole surface area. The thin films were immersed in ethanol which was a selective solvent for P2VP for surface reconstruction. Then, hexagonally packed nanopores were produced in the PVA thin layer by RIE process. By simply spin-coating PS-terminated gold nanoparticles, they self-assembled into the nanopores of PVA thin layer. Finally, the self-assembled Au nanoparticles were utilized to realize various applications like pulsed laser heating, molecular immobilization, surface-enhanced raman spectroscopy. |
