The enhancement of silica dispersibility in styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) latex system |

Novel polymer dispersants were synthesized by copolymerizing carboxylized monomer with various comonomers, which easily interact between SBR and silica. Acrylic acid, acrylamide, or sulfonic acid were selected as a comonomer. The synthetic conditions and input ratio of dispersants were changed to improve the silica loading content and dispersity in SBR latex system. We confirmed the structure and molecular weight of the dispersants using FT-IR and GPC system. The silica loading content in silica-SBR composite was determined by using thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) where Silica-SBR composites samples were heated to 900 °C and the amounts of remaining ash were measured to confirm the silica content in the composites. We found that the optimal types and content of dispersants for silica-SBR composites showed better performances than silica-SBR ones with non-dispersants. |
