제목 Sunset Yellow FCF Coatable Polarizer Stabilized by Photo-Polymerization
초록 Sunset Yellow FCF, a lyotropic chromonic liquid crystal, was self-assembled to oriented anisotropic films, and their molecular packing structures and optical behaviors were investigated by the combined techniques of microscopy, scattering and spectroscopy. To stabilize the oriented H-SY films and to minimize the possible defects generated during and after the coating, photo-polymerization of acrylic acid monomers added to the H-SY/H2O solution was carried out. From WAXD results combined with those of SAED, H-SY crystalline unit cell was determined to be monoclinic with the dimensions of a = 1.70 nm, b = 1.78 nm, c = 0.68 nm, α = β = 90.0° and γ = 84.5°. The molecular arrangements were further confirmed by polarized FT-IR and polarized UV spectroscopy. The polymer-stabilized H-SY films showed good mechanical and chemical stabilities in addition to the high polarizerbility.
