An increasing use of biomass for energy and replacing the monomer from existing polymers is one of the key issue of sustainable development due to its renewability, bio-degradability and less CO2 compared to fossil resources. One of the promising bio-based monomer from D-sorbitol is called 1,4:3,6-dianhydrohexitols, isosorbide (ISB). Its unique properties such as transparency, attribution to raising Tg, rigidity and non-toxicity makes it attractive to both medical and industrial field. 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol is used instead of ethylene glycol to synthesize improved, thermally stable, polyester due to its high Tg and ring structure. Using these monomers, the polyester of isosorbide was synthesized and its properties (Tg, Tm, mechanical properties) were investigated. |
