제목 PEGylated Melanin Nanoparticles as a Photothermal Therapeutic Agent
초록 Melanin has a unique photothermal conversion characteristic, but it does not dissolve in various solvents including physiological fluids. Herein, we attempted to conjugate with poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) to increase the solubility of melanin and thus improve the availability of biomedical applications. Melanin-PEG nanoparticles had spherical shape with a size of 109.33 nm and showed no precipitation for 7 days. Due to the intrinsic properties of melanin, the Melanin-PEG nanoparticles showed good photothermal conversion efficiencies both in vitro and in vivo. The tumor growth was suppressed post the irradiation following intravenous injection of Melanin-PEG nanoparticles into 4T1-bearing mice. We believe that Melanin-PEG nanoparticles could become an attractive photothermal therapeutic agent for photothermal cancer therapy.
