In this study, the thermo-mechanical properties of carbon nanotube (CNT)/polyamide 6-6 (nylon 66) composites are investigated using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The results show that material properties for composites with high weight fraction are significantly improved, while slightly increased in experiments due to condensation of CNTs. The interfacial energies and the material properties are calculated for composites with CNT functionalized by different groups: OH, COOH, and NH2. Due to the improvement on interfacial energies by functionalization of CNTs, the thermal conductivity for composites is significantly increased, but the mechanical properties are not mostly changed. |
