We demonstrate here a flexible thermoelectric (TE) generator fabricated by thermally insulating the chevron-structured device of electro-sprayed (e-sprayed) poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) film. The e-spraying method generated spherical PEDOT:PSS grains, which induced a high power factor of 642 μW m-1 K-2. Resulting TE film showed low sheet resistance (< 10 Ω sq-1) with film thickness > 1um. Thick TE film yielded high TE output (~ 1 μW at ΔT = 17.5 K) from a vertical heat flow by applying the chevron structure. To use the TE generator without a heat sink, the internal thermal transport through the device was rationally controlled by filling it with a thermal insulator. The thermally insulated TE generator yielded 250 % higher Seebeck voltage output without heat sink than the TE generator with no thermal insulation. The TE generator also withstood bending to radius rB = 5 mm and repeated bending for 500 cycles to rB = 8.6 mm. |
