제목 Effect of inorganic additives in PLGA implants for bone tissue engineering
초록 Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) has attracted considerable interest as a material for bone tissue engineering due to proper mechanical properties. However, PLGA during manufacturing underwent thermal decomposition and thus formed acidic degradation products. When thermally degraded PLGA was implanted into a target tissue such as bone, the pH in surrounding tissues decreased and inflammatory reaction was occurred. In this study, we have prepared the PLGA composites with inorganic additives including Mg(OH)2 and ß-TCP as a pH neutralizing agent to inhibit the accumulation of acidic byproducts and accordingly suppress inflammation and a bone graft material, respectively. Such PLGA/inorganic additive composites were prepared with a twin extruder and characterized by FE-SEM, TGA, GPC, and UTM.
