The optically isotropic liquid crystal (OILC) phase that appears unique optical properties such as macroscopically transparant and local orientation has made rapid progress in the display technolgy. In order to achieve uniform size and distribution of OILC medium, we propse the LC mixture containing star-shaped oligosiloxane surfactant (SOS) and nematic host (NLC). The experimental phase diagram of the SOS/NLC mixtures was first established based on the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM) and wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) results and their corresponding phase behavior was identified by conducting the theoretical calculation through the combination of Flory-Huggins, Maier–Saupe-McMillan, and phase field models.
