The parallel synthesis, compared to the traditional synthesis, has great advantages of time and cost to make the chemical compounds having a different property. Therefore, the combinatorial methods in the parallel synthesis utilize to develop chemical materials in a short time. We have studied about the change of pentacene morphology depending on the gradient surface energy induced by the combinatorial methods. First, self-assembled monolayers of octadecyltricholrosilane(OTS) were grafted onto the Si (100) surfaces, and then OTS surfaces exposed to the polarity gradient system, which has UV radiation facilities and is able to control UV exposure time, to make gradient OTS surfaces. Finally, pentacene was deposited on the gradient OTS surfaces and the pentacene morphology was observed using x-ray reflectivity, atomic force microscopy, and contact angle measurement. |
