Synthesis and Characterization of Dithienylbenzobis(thiadiazole)-Based Low Band-Gap Polymers for Organic Electronics |

The generally adapted strategy in designing low-band gap conjugated polymers is to alternate the electron-rich and electron-deficient units on the polymer backbone. Several low-band gap polymers have been utilized for organic photovoltaics (OPVs) with power conversion efficiency of 2-5%. In order to increase the efficiency of OPV devices, many aspects should be taken into account, such as the absorption coefficients of the materials, the exciton dissociation rates, and the charge-carrier mobilities. New donor-accepter alternating conjugated polymers with different donors for tuning their band-gaps and improving photovoltaic performance were synthesized and characterized. Among them, PCPBBT exhibited a band-gap of 1.01 eV and ambipolar characteristics with μh=7.1*10-4cm/Vs and μC=3.3*10-3cm/Vs. The low-band gap conjugated polymers was compared to their optical, electrochemical, and photovoltaic properties. |
