Graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) have exceptional mechanical strength, thermal conductivity and specific surface area. To benefit from the change in properties resulting from nanoscale phenomena, these nanofillers must be uniformly dispersed into, and strongly interacted with, the polymer matrix. Therefore, in this study, to enhance the thermo-mechanical properties of a di-functional (DGEBA) epoxy resin amine-functionalized GNPs were prepared and used as nanofillers. Moreover, a tetra-functional epoxy resin was hybridized with DGEBA to enhance further the performance of the epoxy/GNPs nanocomposites. FT-IR spectroscopy was used to confirm the amine-functionalization of GNPs. The functionalization of GNPs shifted the DSC exothermic peak to a lower temperature region. DMA and TMA confirmed that the incorporation of functionalized GNPs and tetra-functional epoxy resin into DGEBA considerably improved the glass transition temperature and modulus of the nanocomposites. |
