제목 Interaction of Water Molecule with the (100) and (001) faces of Ammonium Sulfate at Low Supersaturation: a Molecular Approach
초록 Growth rate of ammonium sulfate by cooling was measured in a static system in various supersaturations under the real-time observation. Interesting experimental results was that (001) face does not grow until a reasonably high supersaturation is achieved. The reason why the growth rate of the (001) face is very slow at low supersaturation lies in the strong interaction between crystal surface and solvent molecule. The relative affinity of solvent molecule was estimated by the binding energy of water molecule on (100) and (001) surface of crystal. The results show that the magnitude of bonding energy of (001) is bigger than that of (100). It seems that the strong interaction of water molecule on the surface affect the growth rate of different faces.
