In the present situation where various kinds of pathogenic bacteria acquire antibiotic resistance and the number of them is increasing, a multifaceted effort is underway to control them. However, the development speed of new antibiotics is significantly lower than the generation rate of antibiotic resistant bacteria. In order to overcome the difficulties of treatment with conventional antibiotics due to the infection of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, it is necessary to develop a new concept antibiotic that is different from the mechanism of general antibiotics. Antimicrobial peptides and inorganic nanoparticle-based antibiotics are being actively researched and developed. However, antimicrobial peptides and nanoantibiotics are still difficult to use in clinic due to problems with inorganic substances-related cytotoxicity, stability, cost, etc. Therefore, we would like to review the overall trend of antibiotic development in order to plan a strategy to overcome antibiotic resistance |
